The Foundation of the British Confraternity of Catholic Clergy

The Preliminary meeting was held on 11th May 2010 with a paper by The Rev’d Dr John Saward on: Priesthood:  Continuity in an Age of Change.

The Foundation meeting was held on 19th October 2010 with a paper by Fr Richard Biggerstaff on: Pastores Dabo Vobis and Priestly Fraternity.

We are part of a family of Confraternities

(with a pent-annual Conference in Rome)

The US Confraternity ( describes itself as:                 

The Confraternity of Catholic Clergy is an association of 600 Roman Catholic Priests pledged to the pursuit of personal holiness, loyalty to the Roman Pontiff, commitment to theological study and strict adherence to the authentic teachings of the Magisterium.

The Australian Confraternity ( - with which our British Province is temporarily affiliated (while finalising our own Statutes) - describes itself: 

The ACCC is a private, voluntary and fraternal association of Catholic diocesan clerics in Australia constituted in 1987 under statutes conforming with the 1983 Code of Canon Law.  Under Canon 278,1 Secular clergy have the right of association with others for the achievement of purposes befitting the clerical state. 

Its aims include the fostering of unity among Catholic priests and deacons with the bishops in loyalty to the Supreme Magisterium and encouragement of faithfulness to priestly life and ministry.
